Brain Games To Play To Help Improve Memory

By Steve David

Memories seem to be a strange thing. You cannot remember last week, but you can remember when you got your first bicycle. Keeping a healthy mind, writing and spending time reflecting on things may help you preserve memories. The great thing about a memory is that it cannot pass away and will stay with you and then others for eternity.

If you consume a healthy and well balanced diet, you will be providing your brain and overall body with the nutrients and energy it will need throughout the day, and this in turn will boost your ability to remember the details and information that you process on a short term and long term basis.

If you are looking to boost your memory, in addition to eating healthy and exercising regularly, it is a good idea to take a Vitamin B complex. This way, you will be providing your brain and body with all the tools it will need to support your memory on a daily basis.

If you find yourself needing to remember the facts and information that you come across on a daily basis, it is extremely helpful to carry a small pocket notebook to store in your pocket or in your handbag. This way, you can record the information as it comes and be able to reference it at a later point with no discrepancies.

If you are looking to remember a long number or sequence, the easiest way to boost your mind and your chances of remembering is to identify patterns. Once you can identify the pattern in the number or sequence, you will be able to recall and rehash the information when need be.

Another helpful way to help you remember information such as people's names, is to use images that will jog your memory when need be. Using images to supplement facts and figures is an easy way to categorize the information, but will help you associate the important details in the short and the long term.

Using acronyms can be a great way to help your child learn important facts for their schooling assessments and make it more fun to learn the material. By coming up with acronyms to remember information, you are better prepared and more likely to be able to recall the information at any point.

Memory loss is one of the most tragic things that happens to the aging mind. One of the best things that can be done to aid in the prevention, especially in demented patients is prescription medication. Medication like Aricept and Namenda slow the deterioration of brain matter caused by Alzheimer's disease.

Try meditating. Meditation can help you against anxiety, depression, and stress. Studies show that regular meditators have much more activity in the the left prefrontal cortex, an area of the brain associated with feelings of joy and equanimity. This also allows the brain to make more connections with brain cells, increasing memory and mental sharpness.

When trying to commit a large amount of information to memory, having several shorter study sessions is significantly better than having one long study session. The reason for this is that it takes several separate instances of reviewing the material in order to commit the material to long term memory. Holding the information in long term memory will allow you to more readily recall the information than if it was stored in short term memory.

If you're seeing that your memory is either starting to decline or simply not being as strong as it used to be, consider taking some of the suggestions mentioned in this article. You may be surprised at how much greater your memory can quickly become once you start working on it on a daily basis.
