Enjoying Wonderful Panoramic Pictures Of Chesapeake Bay

By Natalia Navarro

People love to travel and see new places. For some, they travel to big metropolitan cities and indulge in the retail therapy. Others love to get in touch with nature and bask in the wonderful scenery. This is why a lot of travelers have many pictures of Chesapeake Bay. The place has so many beautiful spots to enjoy.

The place is also known locally as the Great Shellfish Bay in reference to it Algonquin heritage. The largest estuary in America is known to have an average depth of forty six feet and is two hundred miles long. Its basin drains various states including Virginia, Maryland, New York, District of Columbia, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Aquatic life in the estuary is very divergent. It houses over three hundred kinds of fishes, shellfish and crabs which includes the blue crab, striped bass, and American eel. Birds also flock the area. Examples of which are the American Osprey and Great Blue Heron. There are eelgrass and widgeon grass that grow underwater. Wild rice and bald cypress also grow around the area.

The place strives in the fishing and tourism industry. Famous for being the producer of the American blue crab, it recently has oysters added to its many aquatic residents. Oyster farming was implemented to reduce the effects of pollution. Before pollution happened, tourists would frequent the area an enjoy a catch or two.

When planning to go to the estuary, it is best to travel by car and cross two notable bridges. A Virginian bridge connects the state to Cape Charles. Another bridge connects Maryland and Kent Island. Cruising on a boat is the best way to enjoy the area. Major ports around the area offer cruise ships or charter boats for tourists' boating pleasure.

Known to be the watershed of over one hundred rivers, it houses unique views of the Wye River and LaTrapp Creek. Travelers can also dine in many diners that offer the estuary's specialty dish which is the blue crab.

Many pictures of Chesapeake Bay have circulated around depicting the loss of aquatic animals dying or leaving the area. This is due to overfishing and pollution. Because of this local governments from the surrounding states have issued environmental reforms to help in the restoration process. This has been widely supported by locals, tourists and fishermen.
