The Construction Skills (CITB) Site Safety Plus range of courses are recognised as being at the top of their field by those within the construction industry. SMSTS forms part of this well respected range of courses.
This 5 day course is designed for those in a current site manager role, as well as other professionals who hold a supervisory place within the workforce. agents will establish a deeper understanding of the social, moral and legal aspect of their post and learn new skills in the management of health and safety on site in compliance with up to date legislation.
In the region of 10,000 individuals per year, go on the SMSTS health and safety course. Construction professionals who hope to secure a site manager role in future, as well as current site managers who would like to refresh and develop their knowledge would be well suited to SMSTS training. Construction workers need to be capable in their knowledge of health and safety. The Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007 (CDM) place the obligation on employers to ensure this is the case. The SMSTS course meets this requirement entirely and will qualify individuals using the highest level of training possible.
The training covers a wide variety of health and safety issues and at the end of the training delegates will be aware of and be able to:
* Implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them during their work
* Apply new guidance and industry best practice
* Clearly communicate their health and safety, welfare and environmental responsibilities
* Comply with up to date legal requirements whilst managing heath and safety on site within the role of manager/supervisor
* Develop an understanding of responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety and welfare
* Recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical and productive
An end of course exam must be taken and course candidates will also be assessed through three core exercises before they will qualify for the SMSTS accreditation. On successful completion of the course, a certificate is issued by Construction Skills. Certificates remain valid for 5 years.
This course should not be confused with the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course which is a 2 day training course aimed at site supervisors.
