Pimples occur when the pores of the skin become blocked by dirt or bacteria. This causes the skin to become infected and swell, forming a bump on the skin's surface. The likelihood of pimples occurring is increased by a poor diet, i.e. consuming too much white bread or sugar and not enough vitamins and minerals, wearing rough and abrasive clothing, excessive stress, or an imbalance of the hormonal levels like that which occurs during the teenage years.
Television and magazines tell us that we need to use creams, chemicals and even antibiotics to treat acne. Really, all that is usually required is proper skin care. In the next few lines, I will show you how easy it is to care for your skin and eliminate acne and pimples.
Easy Skin Care:
* The best way to wash your face is to use your hands, first making sure they are clean, of course, instead of a rough facecloth or towel.
* Rinse the soap from your skin using tepid water (water that is not too hot not too cold).
* To dry your skin, always pat lightly with a towel, never rub it.
* Use a soap that has been formulated for facial use only.
The following home remedies are very effective and inexpensive ways to reduce acne:
* Tea tree oil - a natural oil which contains terpenes is good for acne as these terpenes fight off bacteria.
* Lemon juice and rose water - mix the juice of one lemon with the same amount of rose water, apply to the face and leave for 30 minutes. Wash off with warm water. Repeat once a day and results should be seen within two weeks.
* A little known fact about aspirin is that it contains beta hydroxide which can help unblock the pores. Apply aspirin dissolved in a little bit of water directly to the affected area and rise with warm water after ten minutes. For extra glow to your skin, add a little bit of honey to the aspirin mixture.
* Avoid scratching at the pimples as this only exacerbates the swelling and redness of the infected area.
Twenty four hour cure:
1. Hold an ice cube to the area where the pimples have presented themselves.
2. Before you go to bed at night, dab a little bit of non-gel toothpaste on the pimples or affected skin and rinse it off in the morning. If your skin is particularly sensitive, check that it won't worsen the problem by first dabbing a little toothpaste on an unbroken area of skin and leaving it there for a period of time.
Anti-acne Measures:
* Drink plenty of water.
* Ensure that you eat healthily. This means eating plenty of vegetables and fruits.
* Keep your make up simple; don't cake your face with it.
* Clean your bath and bed linen and cosmetic applicators regularly.
* Adhere to a fixed skin care regime.
* Get plenty of sleep.
Bursting or popping pimples that push through to the surface of your skin can just make the problem worse. If you feel that it is imperative to remove the blemish from your skin, follow the following instructions to ensure that you do so safely.
1. Leave a needle or a pin soaking in rubbing alcohol until you need it in a few steps.
2. Wet a face cloth with hot water and hold against the pimple for 20 minutes, keep wetting the face cloth with more hot water.
3. Wash and dry your hands properly, preferably using an antibacterial soap.
4. Disinfect the area around the pimple with a cotton ball that has been soaked in the rubbing alcohol.
5. Using the needle you had waiting for you in the rubbing alcohol, you now need to do what us called 'lancing' the pimple. Gently push or lance the needle into the pimple (about 1/8 inch).
6. Once you remove the needle, pus should begin to excrete from the pimple immediately (If it isn't, repeat from step 2, excluding step 5. If this doesn't work, it means your pimple is not yet ready to be popped). Use both of your index fingers to gently push the sides of the pimple together and remove the excess pus (pressing too hard will only cause the pus to sink deeper into the skin).
7. Wipe the area clean using the rubbing alcohol soaked cotton wool.
