Creating Fitness Goals That Work And Help You Achieve Results

By Darryl Jones

Setting fitness goals can be annoying. Yet it's critical to your success if you would like to get in better shape. And as a martial artist I'll tell you that there is no way around it. If you are not setting and measuring your ambitions then you are going nowhere as far as fitness is concerned.

So how does one go about setting fitness goals? The strategy I'm going to share with you won't only serve you in getting the body that you want, but it can be applied to any area of your life also.

Step 1: Find your desire. Most of the goal setting material that I've read tells you to begin by writing down anything you would like to do, have, or be. This is meant to truly pump you up and get you excited. And it does...for a time. As a guy if I just start writing fitness goals like "Bench Press 500lbs. And win a weightlifting contest" I would feel hyped up in the instant and ready to 'conquer my future ', but am I actually committed to that sort of goal? Does it really provoke me? Probably not.

I might suggest that you pay more notice to what you REALLY need as you sit down to pen your goals. First, ask yourself why you are doing all this in the first place. Do you miss being able to play more unreservedly with your kids? Maybe a goal to be in a position to play soccer with your boy for a half hour is a worthy desire.

Whatever the goals are that you choose, write 1 paragraph as to Why you want to achieve that goal. How will it provide benefits to you? What are the long term results of attaining that goal? This is where you can actually start to connect to your goal. This is what makes the biggest difference between those who give up after the primary excitement of their dreams and those that stay committed to their passions.

Warning: Many of us have scaled the ladder of success only to find it was leaning against the wrong wall. So do the research to make sure that the goals you've set will truly help you to fulfill your wish. For example, going anorexic isn't a good fat reduction routine and will Not lead to you feeling more fit. Also, be totally certain to judge your targets intermittently to make certain they're practical and that they are still bringing you closer to your desires (the WHY'S behind achieving them).

Step 2: Fact Check.Dream big and you may shock yourself with what you can accomplish. But dream Too large and your subconscious mind will only giggle at you and make you chuck in the towel.

One of my pals is good at the game Radiance. And every time we play he destroys me. It's not even fun for me anymore. After the first couple times he kills me I don't need play because there is not any point. I don't feel challenged, I feel overwhelmed.

Don't let this happen to you in your fitness or lifetime goals. Ask if you are being hard-headed about your ambitions. You would like to find the balance between challenging and overwhelming. As your confidence in yourself grows you can always re-establish your ambitions.

Step 3: Set up a supporting system. This suggests strategize. Figure out what you can do to make success easier and failure harder. I recommend that you write down at least 3 eventualities that you find most challenging and then (without or with the help of a chum) create an action plan to deal with those situations when they pop up.

To illustrate, I've been targeting more on my diet lately. I quickly learned that unless I had an entirely stocked refrigerator of quality food decisions I was fighting a uphill battle when mealtime came. So what does One do now? I keep my fridge prepared at every point with 1 or 2 healthy options.

Many people find that a support group, pal, or liability partner can be enormously helpful. I also wish to read books related to my goals, as it keeps me more focused and thrilled about them. There are a number of paths to keep yourself inspired as you work to achieve your goals. Be at liberty to share some more ways in the comments section of this text.

Finally, actually consider hiring a personal coach. As a fitness coach myself I am able to tell you, there's a lot more scientific base behind reaching your fitness goals than you can get from just reading a book. And a trainer knows how it is possible to get results as he (hopefully) has gotten them for others many many times.
