Mastering the art of sketching requires many hours of practice, However, I wish to shorten that time for you as much as possible, so I've compiled a list of common mistakes that beginner artist makes and turned them into a list of tips. These tips should help you to improve in your area of drawing much more quickly.
Tips 1: Don't stress out over making one big sketching masterpiece. Sketching is all about being free and expressing your creativity. But so many artist stress out about coming up with a really big and complex sketch drawing. Don't do this.
The way to get better to to sketch a lot and you can't do that if you are worry about making every sketch perfect.
Tip 2: Begin developing the skill of being able to recognize lines in everything that you see.
By practicing this sketching tip, you will teach yourself to draw what you see and you'll begin to draw naturally as it becomes a habit.
Tip 3: Be aware of the angle from which you are looking at an object. Remember how your head is position relative to the object because any change in the position of your head can change the perspective of the drawing.
I'm not saying there is a right and wrong perspective, but if you start out a sketch with one perspective, you need to make sure that it stays consistence.
Tip 4: Did you know that you can create the perception of light by changing the tone of the surrounding area in your drawing? If you want to make an object appear lighter, just darken the area around it.
Tip 5: Before you begin a drawing project, make sure that everything you draw will fit onto your drawing paper. You can do this by lightly mapping out everything onto the paper using simple shapes.
Tip 6: Try to sketch faster. By sketching faster, you not only force yourself to let go of any tendencies to be perfect, but you'll find that your sketches will look better too. There's something about the fast strokes that just have a sense of raw energy to it and it makes the sketch come to life.
Tip 7: Don't be intimidated by objects that look complicated. Just break it up in to simple shapes and use those shapes to map out the object on your paper. That will give you a rough outline and a great place to start.
