PART 12. Do you notice here that good or nice folks don't always go to heaven but those who trust in God, in fact their will be numerous 'good ' folk go to hell because God did not say ' if you are good you can come to heaven'. He stated that 'if you believe in Me, humbly apologize for the wrong you have done and devote yourself to Me ' (being good should come naturally after you believe.) There will be some not-so-good individuals that will go to heaven for the same reason, they may not have been nice but they believed in God and lived for Him.
Consider it like this you're a businessman, an excellent man, a visionary who is powerful and you have 2 employees working for you. One is an excellent person and has a name as such, but wasn't particularly dependable to you, the other one's not such a good or nice person although he attempts to be, but he's awfully loyal and dedicated to you. Which one is more acceptable to you? Normally, the second person, and so it is with God.
In our country God is known for His goodness and appreciating the virtues of goodness, this is fine but we must not lose touch with the fact that He tells us that His bottom line is continuing to be devoted to Him rather than being good. God wants us to be dedicated to Him first (make Him the Supervisor over our life) Then over time we shall improve folk as well. God does not go looking for 'good folk ' but devoted, yieldingly people.
As the Bible shows; Christianity is like being married and so if you don't ever do anything for your partner in fact you never ever talk to them except in periods of desperate trouble; your partner will question the genuineness of your love and you effectively have no real marriage. This is logical and so it is with Jesus Christ.
If you feel like saying as some do: this is wrong and God is arbitrary, just consider that He created us and everything else, so it's His toy you might say, He can make the rules as He sees fit to. (Even the rules He makes are for our own good - He knows way better than anybody else how we should live.
In the way we direct our kids for there own safety because we love them, so too God directs His children for there own well-being.)
So we see that God calls us to be devoted to Him with all we are, not just believe He exists.
Just going to church doesn't make anyone a Christian - like going to a football game does make you a football player, you are just an spectator in both these cases. Christianity is absolutely not a spectator sport. Jesus criticized people who merely went through the motions, but their heart was not really in it. He really desires more than that.
