The Effects Of Online Games On Children

By Ronald Lozinskerr

The thing about online games is that they can be very addicting which is not a good thing. However, there are also quite a number of positive effects that video games can have on players.

The Positive Effects of Online Games

From dress up games to action games, these can help give the player's mind a puzzle to solve. After all, most great games out there need one to utilize abstract and high level thinking - two important lessons that school teachers don't teach.

One's spatial proficiency, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills as well as logical thinking are more developed by certain video games. Studies have proven that online gamers develop great iconic, spatial and visual attention skills.

The memory skill is also enhanced, since most games need the player to memorize and apply information related to the game. Young ones, especially little girls, can enjoy fun and wholesome dressup games to develop these skills. An online game can be a great way to simulate the real world and help the player learn about computer technology and be more comfortable with it, and dressup games is a great way for girls to adapt to it, as there isn't much of a problem with the for boys.

Many online games can also let a child play with others and develop interactive skills. There are video games that can also teach many lessons that apply to school, the difference is that games are much more fun, which makes practicing so much more engaging for them.

One of the things to be more thankful about the existence of video games is that they often keep teenagers from doing drugs or alcohol.

The Bad Side of Online Games

Of course, violence is a common negative effect that is highlighted. Oftentimes, those who are fond of violent videogames are more likely to be aggressive. Social isolation, disinterest in sports, reading, and other healthy activities can be another negative effect of video games if the person plays too much. These can lead to obesity, muscular and skeletal disorders, and other bad health conditions.

How to Manage Children who Play Online Games

Oftentimes, the child becomes aggressive because of bad parenting than with a violent media source. Carefully monitoring the length of time that a child plays as well as the type of television and other factors can help increase the positive effects of video games on them. Instead of blocking it away (children are likely to find other means of doing it anyway), filter through the sources and select the most appropriate, and talk to your child about it.

Online games are an unavoidable in a fast paced, technological world. While you cannot avoid having your child play them, you can help manage and monitor their activity to keep it healthy and safe for them.
