Establish and Realize your Goals in 5 Steps

By Christy Lyons

Studies show that there are less than one percent of the populace who know hows to establish their aim in life. That explains why many fail in their promises again and again, like their New Year's resolution to give an example. There is always a sincere effort for self improvement, but the cause of failure is not knowing how to do so. Below are five ways to guide you when setting a successful goal.

You MUST aim for what is important to YOU

The import is that you are solely responsible for making it - and not anybody else. The bottom line is that you should be doing what you really like and want to do. Once you accomplish it, it will give you so much exhilaration.

Be explicit about your aims and set a date for doing it.

A case in point is when a person aims to lose five pounds in 30 days - at the end of which he will see if he able to do so. The thing is, they themselves doubt that they can accomplish it so they already give themselves room for error right at the start. Failure to do things in time can be attributed to the lack of a set period of accomplishment.

Aim for something that is within your capability.

Make a difficult but feasible goal that would test the limits of your capabilities. To aim for your first million in a year is wonderful, but with very rare exceptions, is comparable to reaching for the stars. On the other hand, setting out to aim for something that is average or even less means that you will not be doing enough. On the side of prudence, aim for a reachable goal one at a time, then set your bar a little higher and go for it, and on to the next.

A Goal that is written is a Goal that is Successful

This is a practical way of reminding you of what you are aiming for when you are on the verge of losing your way. You will feel justified when finding yourself in that situation and you will be back on the right track in no time at all. The written note is supposed to constantly remind you so put it in prominent locations within easy view.

Have a regular look at your notes. Checking your goals regularly will keep you on the right road. When you falter, your notes will tell you to keep on going.

You will feel the sense of fulfillment when you attain your goals. People sometimes fail in their endeavors not because of lack of effort or determination. Instead, it is because they do not have the road map to success. Always remember that there are guides and pointers along the way, so don't be rash and hasty, and you will be on the road to success.
