How To Be Confident And Not Arrogant

By Diddy Tazzata

If you need to learn how to be confident in yourself, you have the option of choosing from a variety of methods to do so. You can take motivational courses to help you build self-esteem, seek counseling or a therapist to give you advice or consult books and videos on the subject. If you are at the point that you realize you have very little confidence, you have already taken a step in the right direction.

It is very important when you are building your self-esteem and confidence to avoid overcompensating with arrogance. You should know the difference between being arrogant and having confidence. A person who has confidence in himself is able to listen to the opinions or the advice of other people. An arrogant person listens to no one.

A person with confidence values the opinions of others as much as they do their own. They will not change their opinion solely based on what someone else believes but will think about it and decide for themselves. When they have made a decision, if they are shown to be incorrect, they have the maturity to change to fit the facts. When a person with confidence realizes they are mistaken, they can admit to it comfortably.

A person who is arrogant will not listen to anyone that has a different opinion than their own. They will try to make all the decisions and insist that everyone follow their personal logic. They will not be able to create and maintain strong relationships with others because they will be concentrating on getting their own point across.

You must have a strong sense of self worth to be able to have confidence in the things you say and do. You do not have to be boring to act in a mature manner. You do need to be responsible for the actions you take and learn confidence from your mistakes.

Learning how to be confident is a part of growing into a mature and functioning adult. A strong sense of self-worth, speaking clearly and respectfully to others and listening to the opinions given are a part of confidence. The key is to remember the line between confidence and arrogance.
