Phone Interview Tips

Today lots of companies conduct phone interviews in order to determine the best qualified candidates for job interviews. It is therefore important to make a good impression. The following article looks at some phone interview Do's and Don'ts

You should prepare for interviews by compiling a list of your strengths and accomplishments and answers to typical questions that may be asked.

Have you CV handy so you can refer to it if necessary. You should also have a pen and paper to hand in order to make any notes.

Make sure that the room you are in is quiet and free from interruptions. It goes without saying that the TV and Radio should be switched off.

Make sure you take your time when answering the questions, do not be afraid to have some pauses if it helps you answer better.

Always make sure that you don't eat or chew during the phone call. It is important not to ramble and try to make sure that you stick to the point. It is acceptable to have a glass of water in case you get a dry mouth.

It is important to try and treat the phone interview as you would a face to face interview. Make sure you do the same level of research for a phone interview as you would for a face to face.

Above all it is important to remain calm whilst on the phone. The phone interview is an opportunity for you to really sell yourself. It is likely that if you make a good first impression you will be asked to a face to face interview next.

If you are unsuccessful after the first round of telephone interviews it makes good sense to ask the interviewer why. If you find out why you are going wrong you may be more successful next time.
