By Jami Willson

Nursing is a very respectable and at the same time, a demanding profession. Nurses are involved in all sorts of health care service and they provide most of the nation's long-term care. To keep pace with the technological advancement in the medical sector it is essential that the nurses too are equipped with current expertise. A nursing degree can assist in instilling the right attitude and proficiency required in this profession.

An online associate nursing degree educates students about human body (structure and functioning), pharmacy and clinical basics and other clinical concepts and nutrition (basic and advance study). It also helps in improving their interpersonal skills, which are very important in this profession. Students are also trained to deal with high pressure and emergency situation.

The most attractive feature about getting an online nursing education is that there is no age limit. So those who are past their college going age or even those who want to shift careers can benefit from an online associate nursing degree. You can complete it quickly and with ease. In a matter of months, you can acquire skills and certificate necessary for gainful employment.

An Associates Degree is a great starting place for older, first time college students and single parents. The less restricted structure of a community college and the flexibility of the classes make it fairly easy for this demographic to transition back into a learning environment. The small student-teacher ratio helps to facilitate effective learning for students who have been absent from the education scene for a long period of time.

Once you have a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse, you can then take any pre-requisite courses that you will need before you can be accepted into an LPN to RN bridge program.

An online associate nursing degree is a stepping-stone if you wish to acquire an advance degree in nursing.

Either way, you can take them a couple at a time online or at a local community college while you work full-time. And then, you can apply to an online LPN to RN bridge program, and continue working while you get your Associate's Degree in Nursing. This will take about a year to a year and a half - but the good news is you will be working the whole time you're in school. AND - it is very likely that your employer will help pay for some or all of your continuing healthcare education, especially if your employer is a hospital or other large healthcare facility. So there you have it - the traditional nursing school model is not the only option for aspiring nurses any more. There are lots of paths to a nursing degree, and we just showed you one which will allow you to hold down a full time job without flunking out of nursing school!
