By Kory Wodarski

Lyrics: Oldies Music of the Yesterdays

What are the attributes of an Oldie?

Oldies songs are those which began in 1940s. These are the ones written from 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. These songs are considered oldies because we are already in the 21st century. Oldie songs are correlated with the saying "Oldie but Goodie" because they managed to attract attention and stay interesting to different age brackets, including the younger generations. They stood the test of time and survived through the passage of years, thus they are consider classic songs.

Even though the lyrics and music of oldies songs are sung by different artists using different instruments, their lyrics and tune remained unchanged and recognizable to those who are familiar with them.

The one sang by Louis Armstrong from the 1940's, "What a Wonderful World?" is just one of the popular oldies music and those that were popularized by Elvis Presley. When these are played today, we can instantly recognize them and we sang along with the songs and feel the comforting lyrics of the music. Indeed they are timeless.

Different Sense and Style of Oldies Lyrics

There is a total dissimilarity in the meaning, lyrics and sense of oldies music and modern music. The oldies music of the middle 20th century concentrates more on the love for life and humanity. Despite the presence of similar lyrics and message to oldies songs, you can still notice the difference when it comes to the quietness of oldies tunes. As years evolved, so does the styles and tunes of music. Different epochs resulted to significant changes in style, tune and lyrics of the songs brought by the advancement of technology and music like rap, techno pop and dance mix. This type of music could not exist during the middle part of the 20th century because the musical instruments have not been invented or reached their musical heights.

In spite of the points of view that 45 record does not exist for oldie music single, the fact remains, oldie songs remained stable and strong despite the transition of time.

Some individuals even conversely argued that oldies songs do not sound as good if not played on turntable. It is not the manner on how the needle touches or scratches the vinyl record of an oldie song, but it is the memories that transport a person to a specific time when listening to an oldie. The clearness and crisp of melodies produced from CD player is hollow and empty when it reaches the ears.

Singers of oldies who etched our minds

Some of the Oldies singers are Natalie Cole and Nat King Cole who popularized "Unforgettable," Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly for "True Love" and almost any songs that Frank Sinatra renders and Art Garfunkel for his "I only have eyes for you." The loveliness and difference of the oldies are not only found on the lyrics written on paper, but the tunes and lyrics that touch the heart and pierce your head.

Oldie music has been around for years and everyone can easily identify them with just a click of your finger. A person does not need to be familiar with the contents of a single or become an oldie music fanatic to know one. Myriad oldies music managed to insinuate themselves in every corners of individuals' hippocampus of their brains.
