Sukumar Shrivastav wanted to be sure that his wife and daughter had a safe and comfortable stay in the US. His daughter had a student visa and his wife was going to visit their daughter for about six months. Sukumar was looking for a suitable health insurance plan for both of them. He shortlisted student secure insurance for both, his wife and his daughter.
Only non-US citizens are eligible for Student Secure Insurance. They should be at least 14 days old, staying in the US for a period of at least 10 days and not more than 24 months. They should be in the US for business, tourism, or study.
This plan does not limit itself to providing insurance only for medical emergencies. It also covers expenses incurred due to travel-related issues, hospitalization, diagnostic examinations, and surgery, up to the sum assured by the policy. Money spent on intensive care is also reimbursed if it is the usual, customary charges.
The plan also covers expenses for visits to doctors' offices for healthcare needs that do not require hospitalization. Costs for prescription drugs are also covered, up to the maximum amount assured by the policy. Expenses up to a $500,000 limit for emergency medical evacuation are also payable by the insurer in case the insured person needs to be evacuated to a medical care facility due to a sudden illness or injury. Medical expenses resulting from the insured person being a victim of acts of terrorism are covered for a maximum lifetime limit of $50,000.
Medical insurance benefits are not the only things that these plans cover. They include an upper limit of $10,000 for political evacuation. They also bear the packaging and transporting costs involved in the repatriation process if the policy holder dies while visiting the US. This, too, is offered up to the overall maximum limit of the policy.
If an insured above 18 years of age expires when using public transport, the plan provides $50,000 for accidental death. Travel insurance benefit is provided as coverage for checked-in baggage lost during transit.
The overall maximum amount assured for the plans is fixed based on the age of the policy holder. For policy holders in their 70s, the maximum amount payable is $50,000, while for policy holders in their 80s and above, this amount is $10,000.
This policy can be renewed online for 5 or more days, and a charge of $5 is levied per renewal. The policy is valid for only one year after which, a new plan needs to be bought. Policy cancellation will not attract any charges if the request is filed before the coverage effective date. International student secure insurance can help the student enjoy life without worries about health and finances, enabling him/her to focus on studying.
