Alcoholics Anonymous - Free For People Wanting To Quit Consuming Alcohol

By Ed Philips

Introduction: Alcoholics Anonymous, also called AA is the world's largest self help group for people who desire to end their addiction to alcohol. Alcoholics Anonymous is a group of women and men who have suffered from or are themselves suffering from alcohol addiction, and who turn towards each other in order to help themselves get rid of their addictions. If you feel you're an alcohol addicted or are "addicted to alcohol", then you may look for help from your local AA chapter.

People at Alcoholics Anonymous won't tell you whether you're an alcoholic or not. So it is your decision to judge if you're one, in case there're any doubts. If you feel the urges or cravings to lay hands on your favorite poison, always end up alcohol consumption more than what you desired to, or are physically dependent on alcohol to get you through the day or the night, then you're what could be termed an alcohol dependent or alcoholic person. There're many individuals who think that they are not alcoholics because they've the ability to consume a lot of alcohol without losing control of their senses, but in the true sense of the word, these people are also alcoholic.

Initial Step: When you are sure that you're an alcohol addicted, then the initial step to take in order to quit the habit is to abstain from alcohol consumption as much as possible. While it is easy to tell someone to reduce on alcohol consumption, it is impossible for the alcohol addicted to follow this suggestion due to the condition that she or he is struggling with. So, it's vital for alcoholics people to look for support at these times from people who've managed to or are in the process of kicking the habit and this is the core group forming Alcoholics Anonymous.

AA is the best type of support group that anybody may ever think of joining, as it's among those exceptional organizations on the planet that's apolitical non denominational and multiracial. The group has absolutely no social, political or religious leanings and the only leaning the group has is towards reaching a combined aim of non-alcoholism.

Self-supporting: Alcoholics Anonymous is a self supporting, non-professional organization that is founded, run and managed by past or even current alcoholics, and everybody is free to join in. There're no requirements to be met to become a member, aside from the interest to quit alcohol dependency.

AA or Alcoholics Anonymous has the distinction of being the world's largest self-help organization. Branches and Alcoholics Anonymous groups may be found in nearly every city in the world. The group's members meet every week, where they talk about the problems that they're facing due to being alcohol dependent, how they wish to stop the habit, how they have managed to get out of the quick sands of alcohol addiction and what are the positive and negative changes in their lives due to alcohol dependency and due to getting rid of it.

Free For All: Alcoholics Anonymous membership is totally free for everybody. The organization does not ask for members but all are free to come and go as they wish. There are no attendance or membership records. However, the organization does have a buddy system, where one person is codependent on the other and vice versa, and every one tries to prevent their partner from getting a relapse.

So it is very easy to join AA and the group therapy that takes place at AA meetings is recommended by specialists for the people who wish to get rid of their dependence on alcohol. You can also check out the organization's local branch by attending several meetings.
