Cocaine 101

By Alice Tanston

Addiction is a hard topic to talk about, because of how many people are out there that are suffering from it. With club beginnings, cocaine has since spread out to all types of people no matter their way of life. While we have a choice to pass on drugs and alcohol, many people do not pass up drug usage. Luckily, there are places like Milestones Ranch Malibu that aid in recovery.

Many of us are busy with our daily lives and sometimes the issues of those we love tend to slip through the tracks. Making a conscious effort to actually know the warning signs and to pay attention could help to fix the problem, should they want help. Even the most basic drug education can help save a life.

Knowing the signs of Cocaine use:

When looking into the warning signs, there are many telltale signs. There is a level of apathy for things in their life that they may have loved to do. They no longer want to live in the real world. Their hobbies no longer matter. Their jobs no longer matter. There will be a decrease in weight due to their disinterest in eating properly. Their energy levels go up despite that and they go far beyond what you would be normally seeing.

Symptoms and Effects of Cocaine Use and Addiction:

Cocaine affects the central nervous system, which affects the mental stability of the user. While recreational users tend to feel euphoric and energetic there are many downsides to that. They face delusions such as feeling immortal and something called "cocainomania", which are delusions coupled with grandeur. The physical effects include getting sick, nauseous, vomiting, vertigo, tremors, twitching, and emotional instability.

What is their reasoning for being on cocaine?

There are many reasons why someone could be using cocaine. There could have been problems at home when they were growing up or they could have simply been interested in experimenting with the drug, for example. Self-medication can be a large reason amongst those that have emotional struggles. These are not the only reasons as it can be highly circumstantial. This leads to a strong dependence; because they rely on the feelings they gain and lose during the high. There is a need to continue the usage, upping the intake as they go along seeking the same high as their first. It is very simple to overdose on cocaine and due to that, overdoses happen often. There are many negative affects done to one's body when on the drug.

Are there any withdrawal symptoms?

That is not entirely true. When a user stops using the drug, they crash. They become exhausted, irritable, and want nothing more than to find more to fuel the feelings they have when they use it. Other withdrawal symptoms include depression, malaise, an actual appetite, and incredibly vivid dreams that tend to be nightmares.
