Entertainment and You

By Peter Sanchez

Where do you get your entertainment from? Where do you watch your entertainment? What devices do you use? There are many forms of entertainment, but the most in today's world is digital media. What I want to discuss today is where to get your music and movies and how to play that media to maximize your entertainment experience. Join me today in discussing technology and entertainment.

Movies can be a big expense in your month to month spending, I want to let you know how you can maximize your dollar. If you only watch a couple of movies a month, you might be fine with doing something like Redbox or just renting on any digital media service. But if you watch more than 2 movies a month, you should be getting Blockbuster's service. For $9.99 a month you can have one movie at a time, but you can utilize their in-store exchange option and end up with close to 30 new movies to watch a month! You don't have to wait for new releases like the other services and you can just swing by any blockbuster on your way home and get a new movie every day, the most bang for your buck.

Let's talk about movies. Movie DVD rental services verses Digital Rental services. Digital rental services like Xbox's and Sony Playstation's, you will pay $3-6 for each movie, not very good. You will without a doubt get more movies for the cheapest one time monthly price with Blockbuster's mail in and in-store exchange program. For one movie at a time, you will pay $9.99 a month. With Redbox, if you get 6 Blu-Ray movies for one day at a time, you're at $10 already. But with Blockbuster's in-store exchange, you can get as many movies as you want all month long. They also get the new releases on day one of dvd release, unlike Netflix and Redbox 30 days later. If you hit up Blockbuster on your way home from work a few times a week you can end up with 20 - 30 movies each month for only $9.99!

Let's move on and discuss getting entertainment for free. To do this, there is more work involved than you would think. If it is something like music it can be worth it. To do this, you need to get Peer to Peer software. Something like BitComet or Emule, they are free downloads. You install the software and run a search for whatever it is that you might want, and see if someone has it for download and you just sort of trade with other people online. They own it and they are giving it to you basically.

But this gets tiresome and sometimes you have to search too hard to find something. For things like movies, you get the file on your computer then you have to figure out where you can watch it comfortably and transfer the file to make it work with whatever you might need to watch it on. More times than not, I end up buying what I want, to know I have the best quality entertainment and the easiest to use and save, physical media.

  1. Are you talking here about the Blockbuster @ Home movie package from Dish? I got that set up last month when a dish coworker told me how many movies were available. I have access to over 100,000 movies, games and TV shows, and can get them by mail, in-store exchange and streaming live! Dish even game me an additional 20 HD movie channels for my lineup, and I am getting it 3 months free! Blockbuster and Dish give me everything I want for movies and TV!
