Install Simple, Inexpensive Hydroponic Systems

By Bonita Odom

A lot of manufacturers produce foodstuffs and flowers using hydroponics. They like the money, manpower and utility savings. Some individuals who garden also choose hydroponic systems. This type of system has a smaller land and water footprint. It may also be less expensive than traditional gardening methods. Advanced planting skills are not required to set up a basic network. Hydroponic Systems

Some gardeners do not have enough land to grow plants. The land to which they do have access may not have the nutrients necessary to successfully grow vegetables and flowers. A lot of people want to be able to garden despite changing seasonal weather conditions.

Gardens can be installed hydroponically in various ways. Some planters choose to install pumps which move nutrients to the plants. Others install a wick network. People with experience often move up to a recirculating system. The labor and cash a person wishes to expend narrows the decision about which of the available hydroponic systems to use.

A lot of beginners start out with a flood and drain set up. Plants are placed in trays above a pump. The pump is covered in water treated with various nutrients. On a regular basis the roots of the garden are flooded with the solution. Pumping then ceases and the water returns to the lower receptacle.

Wicks cost less to set up but do not supply the advantages of a pump based network. Plantings sit in sand which overlays a wick that distributes a solution containing nutrients. The sand retains water which can block sufficient air flow to the roots.

People who grow plants at home but do not have sufficient space or good soil may garden hydroponically. Hydroponics is also a good choice for those who grow things year round. The large variety of hydroponic systems gives gardeners many options for this sort of gardening.
