Why Your Small Child Should Be Learning To Work A Computer

By Helen O'Neill

Technology is advancing at a very rapid pace and this is only one small reason, among many others why your young child should be learning to use a computer. Computers are a part of classroom life and students use them all the time. When children become old enough, parents should get them on a computer. This can teach them the basics and will really help them learn necessary life skills. They should only be allowed to use it for a short time in the beginning.

Research can be done on the computer and is very important for students of all ages. Sometimes homework is based off of research that kids do online and it is needed to get it all done. Typing skills are learned and practiced as parents teach their kids to type in the search engines for what they want. The search engines and results also teach the kids how to use the search box to get what they really want.

Learning games on the computer can be played by toddlers through teenagers or even higher. These games can be found online on different websites, or can be software that is installed. All the learning games teach basic or advanced skills that can be used in the real world. Even preschoolers can play games because they are available for children of this age. They are easier than the other ones and focus on more basic skills.

Most computers come with drawing or painting software. This is a great way to get the young ones started. They can draw and color their own creations while getting to know the idiosyncrasies of the mouse, keyboard and software. Computer art and design are valuable skills for aspiring Picassos or graphic artists or architects. It also enhances fine motor skills.

An abundance of coloring pages is available for downloading and printing. Puzzles of all shapes and sizes are there for the taking. There is no need to go to the local toy store to buy these items anymore. Some of the coloring and puzzle pages can also be done on computers. Many of the sites which produce coloring pages and puzzles are absolutely free of charge.

Social networking sites can be a wonderful way for your child to communicate with others across the globe. It is advisable to monitor and supervise this activity as there are unfortunately some nasty people out there. We cannot let our children fall prey to predators so it's advisable to stick to children's websites and social networks. Ensure that they chat to legitimate children of similar ages and they will learn a lot about other cultures while improving their typing and language skills. Your involvement in these activities is fundamental to their safety.

Children find it entertaining to learn about people from all over the world and to see them and listen to first hand stories. In the process they grow intellectually. They acquire some very necessary communication and life skills as well.

Parents must remember it is their duty to make sure the site is safe. Computers can help your child grow into a balanced individual. This is a good reason why your young child should be learning to use a computer at an early age. This time must be limited though as they still need physical exercise outside to stay healthy.
