Disney is ramping up its digital campaign for Pixars next cartoon release called Brave with a cheeky advertisement showcasing some of the clothes in the flick.
Brave takes place in 10th century Scotland and follows Merida (pronounced by Kelly Macdonald), a talented archer who is driven to challenge conventions and customs by taking destiny into her very own hands.
As far as Pixar films go, Brave is the 1st flick from the studio with a central female protagonist. This presents a challenge of sorts to the marketers at Disney and Pixar because targeting too much on the female side of the tale can shut out the young male audiences that Pixar also wants to draw in.
That's the reason why it is smart that for the newest featurette, a faux ad for kilts, Disney goes after humour, not girlishness.
The studio has been busy releasing featurettes, behind-the-scenes photographs and other morsels across YouTube and Facebook. The Facebook Page for Brave has more than 125,000 Likes as well as a set of photos, videos and links to applications.
In the rugged and puzzling Highlands of Scotland, stories of magical legends and classic battles have been passed thru the generations since traditional times. Disney Pixar's "Brave" a new tale, joins the lore when the bold Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts convention, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. The film looks at the men wearing kilts and kilt hose.
"Brave" tells the story of Merida, a skilled archer and impetuous child of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Driven to carve her own trail in life, Merida defies an ancient custom holy to the chaotic lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and bad tempered Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida's actions inadvertently unharness chaos and ire in the dominion, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Lady (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she's granted an ill-fated wish. The following hazard forces Merida to learn the meaning of true bravado in order to undo a brutal curse before it is too late.
Directed by Mark Andrews ("The Incredibles," "Ratatouille," "John Carter of Mars") and Brenda Chapman ("The Lion King," "Prince of Egypt"), and produced by Katherine Sarafian ("Lifted," "The Incredibles"), "Brave" is a grand journey full of heart, notable characters and the signature Pixar humour enjoyed by audiences of every age.
Disney Pixar's Brave is released in cinemas on 17 August 2012, and will definitely be presented in Disney Digital 3D in select theatres.
