Appreciating Classic Epic Fantasy Novels

By Thelma Kent

If you are unaware of the genre, epic fantasy novels are actually fairly abundant. You will find lots of authors with an untold amount of books relative to the overall genre. But if you happen to be new to reading this kind of work, or you are just looking for some of the classics, you will get that information here.

There is an innumerable amount of single novel options for those looking to sample the works of several authors. However, many believe it could be beneficial to familiarize yourself with some of the series that are considered classics today. Two great examples of this would be the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the seven book set of the Chronicles of Narnia.

The Lord of the Rings from Tolkien is harrowed as a classic because of the impressive detail and immersive story that is unwound within the three extensive books. The story itself details the struggles of Frodo Baggins and a band of companions with the purpose of destroying a very powerful ring that could destroy Middle Earth.

As for C. S. Lewis's creation in The Chronicles of Narnia, a similar immersive story is spun in its plentiful pages. However, this group of siblings finds a magical world within a wardrobe and soon discover that it is tarnished by an evil witch. They soon see their place in the restoration of this world, and band with Aslan the Lion to restore good to Narnia. This is a seven book series, so the entire story is much more intricate than this synopsis was able to convey.

In addition to these titles, there are several others harrowed as heroes in the writing of this genre. Piers Anthony, J. V. Jones, and David Eddings are just a few popular names. There are of course too many to even list.

So if you happen to be considering the possibility of reading this genre, these classic series might be a great place to begin. Of course, this is not the end all of Epic Fantasy Novels, but this is certainly an excellent starting point. They were good enough to make into major motion pictures, so as any reader will tell you, the book is even better.
