Keys for a Motivational Speech

By Lance Manyon

You are in the spotlight and have to give a motivational speech. Where do you start? What makes a speech motivational? The first thing you need to know about a motivational speech is that the tone of voice goes a long way towards establishing your credibility with the audience. For some people the right voice quality can be enough to fire them up and get them motivated. When it is your turn in the spotlight, here are the ideas you need to consider to give a great motivational speech.

Establish your Credibility

It's easy for a crowd to tell if you don't have the experience in doing what they are about to undertake. Make sure you've already planted yourself in the shoes that they are about to fill before you deliver any motivational speech. A lack of experience is enough to discourage those you are addressing, which would render your speech useless to them, and force them to look elsewhere for motivation.

Believe in Yourself

Even if you know everything about your topic, you may not be a polished motivational speaker. The key to a motivational speech is your commitment to your material. If you really believe it, your audience will too. The best way to translate your strong belief is to eliminate ah's & um's. How? By internalizing your speech through repeated deliveries in front of your spouse, your best friend or even your dog. You would be surprised how much emotional feedback a pet can give.

Address Key Points

When memorizing your speech you may find that you sometimes leave out an important point. Don't take the chance. Use notes or an outline of your motivational speech because if you confuse the audience by missing a key point, your goal of motivating will be damaged. Once all the key points are covered, the listeners will be armed with the information they need to succeed at whatever comes their way.

Follow Through

After giving your motivational speech be sure to reach out to members of the audience. By showing that you are just like them, they will develop confidence in their own abilities and when they are looking for guidance they will know that they have the ability.
