The Memoir Of Matt Dodge

By Elinor Tran

Matt Dodge was born in the year 1987 30th may. He is an American football punter who was first recognized during a junior season playing for his high school. After completion of high school, he went to Appalachian State University as a freshman. This was in 2005 and he played 12 games and then made a transfer to East Carolina University (ECU).

While at the ECU, he was able to join the pirate team in 2007 where he made eighty punts in the season. He became the second pirate to ever do this in a single season in the history of the school. He was also considered the best player for the two years he played for the pirates.

This achievement made him get numerous awards. In 2008, he became number 14 country wide after having an average of 43.9 yards per punt. He is a holder of the special teams unit Blackbeard award. The all conference USA punters ranked him second.

The university sports achievement award also selected him as the punting favorites in 2009. The Phil Steele Magazine chose him as the all conference preseason best. He was made an honorable mention national member by a Consensus draft service.

In the year 2010, New York Giants selected him for the team. This was during a seventh round national football league. He was to replace the Giants long time punter who had just retired. This saw him make a four year contact with the team on 3rd June. During a memorable game of 19th December, dodge made a punt of 36 yards. This was unfortunately returned by DeSean at the final whistle making a touch down. Philadelphia eagles won the game.

After the loss, Matt Dodge was criticized for not punting ball out of bounds. In 2011 September 3rd after 16 games, the Giants released him and signed a new player for the punter position. This saw him lose his job and is currently he is a free agent.
