Stormtrooper Costume Ideas to Inspire You

By Amanda Black

If you enjoy the Star Wars movies and stories, you probably want to dress up like one of the characters from the franchise and the Stormtrooper is always a fun choice. While stormtroopers are hardly the most beloved characters in Star Wars, they are dramatic and frightening bad guys with impressive costumes and weapons. This can make them fun character costume choices and in this article we will help you find some ideas for tracking down the best Stormtrooper costumes and accessories.

An important difference between Stormtrooper costumes and the other kinds of costumes that are out there is that in this case, you can buy things that were actually used in the Star Wars movies. These will, obviously, be very expensive and you need to take care that you are working with a reputable seller. You are also able to find lots of really good replica things like helmets, armor and even complete Stormtrooper costumes.

If you follow the Star Wars movies, you know that there are several types of stormtroopers. Yes, most of them dress entirely in white but there are also Shadow Troopers who dress in black.

If you have the resources and time you can create your own Stormtrooper costume from scratch. Find inspiration by watching scenes from the movie or looking at stills to see how they look and then build your costume using things that are easy to buy or that you already have at home. You could, for example, make the armor out of cardboard that's been painted white. The helmet is also important but you can use a motorcycle, bicycle or sports helmet that you either paint white or cover in white material. You can complete your costume with a white pair of boots. A blaster may be a little more complicated to make, but it can be done -or you could find an inexpensive blaster type toy gun that can be used for this purpose.

Sure you want to make sure you look as authentic as possible but it is also important that your movements (walking, etc) are authentic as well. This can be even more fun if you have a partner or group who all dress up like stormtroopers, so you can create the appearance of a whole unit. If you want to portray a Stormtrooper in the most authentic manner possible, people might actually get nervous when you point a blaster at them.

Ever since the first Star Wars movie hit the screens more than thirty years ago, thousands--if not millions--of people have put on costumes that have been inspired by this series. The Stormtrooper costume has become one that plenty of people enjoy wearing, most likely because so much thought was put into it by the costume designers on the films.
