Cosmetic Surgery Enhances People's Appearance

By Adriana Noton

Cosmetic surgery is an elective procedure that helps people enhance their physical appearance. Cosmetic surgery is also referred to as plastic surgery and the popularity of these surgeries is not on the decline. Men and women are increasingly deciding to undergo these procedures. Depending on what a patient wants improved, the treatment may be invasive or non-invasive.

Non-invasive cosmetic treatments are ideal for people who want to enhance their appearance without the risks or recovery period associated with an invasive alternative. This option is usually used to treat the face and body. Hair removal, wrinkles, blemishes and cellulite are a few areas that can be corrected during a non-invasive procedure. Popular forms of these treatments include chemical peels, botox and laser skin resurfacing.

Chemical peels are a popular non-invasive treatment that is used to treat acne, scarring and wrinkles. It uses glycolic, salicylic, trichloroacetic, or carbolic acid to peel away the top layer of skin. Light to medium chemical peels are appropriate for sun-damaged skin, skin with uneven pigmentation and fine wrinkles. Deep chemical peels treat deep wrinkles, wrinkling around lips and chin, sun-damaged skin and blemishes.

Botox injections diminish visible wrinkles located around the eyes, forehead and in the space between the eyebrows. Botox is comprised of botulinum toxin type A. It works by paralyzing the muscles of the face for a period of time. Because those muscle can no longer contract, the skin above the muscles does not wrinkle. A botox treatment lasts for 3 to 6 months.

Laser skin resurfacing is one of the most effective, non-invasive ways to remove wrinkles. It can also assist in clearing up acne and produces smooth, firm skin. The procedure uses CO2 lasers to penetrate multiple layers of the skin's surface. Patients are sedated with an iv during this procedure and possibly even a general anesthetic. Results take months to be fully realized.

Because of the nature of invasive cosmetic surgeries, there is more risk and and longer recover time associated with them. Invasive treatments usually require major changes to the body. Rhinoplasty and Abdominoplasty are two popular types of cosmetic surgery. Rhinoplasty is also referred to as a nose job. Patients get nose jobs for a variety of reasons. Some want to improve the appearance of their nose. Other people desire to fix an injured nose or restore its functioning. This operation requires the use of anesthesia. A surgeon will make incisions in the nose and reshape the bones and cartilage. There are several form of rhinoplasty. Structure rhinoplasty patients have small amounts of cartilage removed or added their noses. This operation does not alter the structure of the nose.

Abdominoplasty, most widely known as tummy tucks, are a popular surgery. An abdominoplasty procedure reduces stretch marks to make the stomach tight and flat. This procedure involves a surgeon making a small cut at the bikini line. From here, extra skin and fat are removed from the body. The operation takes about 5 hours. Bruising and swelling are side effects of the operation, but patients leave with visible results.

Cosmetic procedures are very popular. These surgeries can be invasive or non-invasive and can involve anything from hair removal to a tummy tuck. No matter what type of treatment is selected, patients will have a new and improved look.
