Choosing SSSTS

By Lucy Green

The Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme forms part of the Construction Skills (CITB) Site Safety Plus range of courses which are greatly thought of in the construction industry and regarded as being the highest standard of qualification for SSSTS Training.

Training is targeted at site supervisors with a view to equipping them with the most recent up to date regulations and knowledge needed to manage effectively with their health and safety responsibilities with the best working practices and approach. Training is completed over a two day period.

This two day course provides supervisors with an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, as well as their legal responsibilities in relation to their work activities. The necessity of promoting and encouraging health and safety at work in order to monitor effectively will be highlighted. SSSTS training is appropriate for individuals who are currently employed as a supervisor or will be taking on supervisory responsibilities inside their role.

A number of health and safety matters important to the site managers role are examined within the course, including; The supervisors role, Health & Safety Law & Enforcement, Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessment & Method Statements Principles of Prevention and Health & Safety Management

Candidates will be observed and continually assessed throughout interactive sessions and and and will also be required to take a multiple choice, written test. Certification is valid for 5 years, however there are likely to be continuing changes in legislation, environmental management and technology so it is recommended that refresher courses are undertaken within 3 years of sitting the original course.

This course should not be confused with the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course which is a 5 day training course aimed at site managers.
