Entering the work field after you graduate from your phlebotomy training class with your diploma it can be pretty nerve wracking going into your first day of work after you have been offered a job. It is perfectly natural to be nervous but as long as you remember everything you learned while you were being trained it should come to you and you will be able to pick up on it.
Even though what you learned during school was dealing with fake blood you should be able to take the sight of blood, and it should come natural to you. Of course the first time you work on a patient, it is going to make you feel nervous but you have to help as many patients as you can in a day to be able to get the hang of it.
Whichever school you decide to go to you will be dealing with different kinds and different personalities of your fellow classmates. This opportunity will allow you to gain more patient interaction. You will be taught what you are supposed to say when you enter and exit the room. Since you will not be able to stick any of your classmates with a needle, then you should be able to practice saying to them what you would say if they were an actual patient being held in your care.
Having experience in customer service is a perfect start before you enter any medical profession because it is good experience on how you deal with different types of people and get to know their different personality traits. You have to be prepared to deal with their attitudes because most people do not come into a hospital or a medical environment friendly.
By going through your internship or volunteering at a hospital or a medical care provider you should be used to walking around all day and not feeling a slight of pain in your feet. You might have already been used to it before you even entered college based on the different types of jobs you may have.
You also have to have confidence in yourself and that is a big part of any job especially the medical career field. Patients are not going to want you sticking a needle in them if you look really nervous and your hand is shaking. For your first day, there might be someone in the room with you when you are taking blood from an actual patient because in school you are not allowed to stick anyone with a needle.
After you have done your first patient you should feel more relaxed after that because getting through the first one and doing it right may have been the fear you had to face. The patients will also feel better knowing that it hardly hurt at all and was not that bad.
While you are researching and trying to decide what school you want to go to for phlebotomy training you should also check out the salary and find out how much they make to start off with and if they receive any bonuses.
