All faculties must have an admission number for each relevant age group. This is outlined in law as an age grouping in which pupils are or will normally apply to the school in question. It may be obligatory for some faculties to have more than one admission number. Where a secondary college operates a 6th form and admits youngsters from other faculties at age 16, as an example, an admission number will be necessary for Year 12 as well as for the key year or years below.
